The Girl in the Mirror-Rose Carlyle #BookReview

Synopsis(Amazon)

Twin sisters Iris and Summer are startlingly alike, but beyond what the eye can see lies a darkness that sets them apart. Cynical and insecure, Iris has long been envious of Summer’s seemingly never-ending good fortune, including her perfect husband Adam.

Called to Thailand to help her sister sail the family yacht to the Seychelles, Iris nurtures her own secret hopes for what might happen on the journey. But when she unexpectedly finds herself alone in the middle of the Indian Ocean, everything changes. When she makes it to land, Iris allows herself to be swept up by Adam, who assumes that she is Summer.

Iris recklessly goes along with his mistake. Not only does she finally have the golden life she’s always envied, with her sister gone, she’s one step closer to the hundred-million-dollar inheritance left by her manipulative father. All Iris has to do is be the first of his seven children to produce an heir.

Iris’s “new” life lurches between glamorous dream and paranoid nightmare. On the edge of being exposed, how far will she go to ensure no one discovers the truth?

And just what did happen to Summer on that yacht?

Only Iris knows . . .

The Girl in the Mirror -Rose Carlyle

My Thoughts:

Well written page turner I did not want to put it down after all wanted to find out what exactly happened to Summer.

I don’t know how it works with twins but if it’s anything as described in this book I want no part of it. Ok, let’s get serious. Iris and her sister are mirror sisters it’s not easy to tell them apart which annoyed me while reading. How could the mom especially not be able to tell them apart. Thankfully their brother Ben who seemed like the only smart one in the family could.

The story was written in a way to make you want to side with the “good sister” “miss perfect” the one everybody loves and is so “pure”. When it got to the plot I was like wait a goddamn minute wasn’t this heffa supposed to be dead?! This can’t be real guys it gets good. Both Sisters will do whatever it takes and I mean whatever it took just to secure the family money. Riveting story, intense, suspense, the ending a definite shocker; I could on and on I want to read it again.

Congrats on this first book. I will definitely look out for more from this author.

P.s I swear a lot but that’s just my natural reaction to the books I read and the characters.

The Family Upstairs -Lisa Jewel #BookReview

I’ve finally completed reading this book 📚. I’m all types of feels because of how the book was written. Here’s the synopsis of the book as stated on GoodReads…

Synopsis:

Soon after her twenty-fifth birthday, Libby Jones returns home from work to find the letter she’s been waiting for her entire life. She rips it open with one driving thought: I am finally going to know who I am.

She soon learns not only the identity of her birth parents, but also that she is the sole inheritor of their abandoned mansion on the banks of the Thames in London’s fashionable Chelsea neighborhood, worth millions. Everything in Libby’s life is about to change. But what she can’t possibly know is that others have been waiting for this day as well—and she is on a collision course to meet them.

Twenty-five years ago, police were called to 16 Cheyne Walk with reports of a baby crying. When they arrived, they found a healthy ten-month-old happily cooing in her crib in the bedroom. Downstairs in the kitchen lay three dead bodies, all dressed in black, next to a hastily scrawled note. And the four other children reported to live at Cheyne Walk were gone.

The can’t-look-away story of three entangled families living in a house with the darkest of secrets.

Warning ⚠️ :If you’ve not read the book I suggest you stop here as I’m going to be dissecting the book and eventually spoilers will be mentioned.

The Family Upstairs -Lisa Jewel

My Thoughts:

The story is told of the main character Libby, 25 yr old who inherits her family home. She’s excited and looks forward to the scary and exciting journey. Libby learns that she has older “siblings” and her parents were apart of a “murder” “suicide”. All is still not clear so she works with the lead journalist Miller Roe who covered the story to find out what truly happened.

The story is told from three persons point of view:

Libby

Henry *brother

Lucy *no relation yet

Henry:

Henry a 12 yr old boy talks of his wealthy family and how he looks forward to going to a top private school. He lives with his mom dad and sister Lucy. Henry talks of his mom a budding socialite and dad a man who has inherited his family’s money. He later learns that his family is no longer rich soon after his mom takes in a family Birdie and Justin. Henry doesn’t like Birdie and he is puzzled because his mom allowed her and boyfriend to stay. Soon after another family comes David, Sally, Clemency, and Phin. His home has become crowded. Henry is obsessed with Phin. He’s in love. Henry grew closer to Justin a herbalist. He made different types of potions for ailments. It was not until Justin left Henry started doing his concoctions. Henry is very pissed with everything that is happening in his house, he’s now homeschooled with the other children, and living as a poor family thanks to David who was now in charge of the family’s finances.

Lucy:

To be honest I wasn’t sure where the story was going with Lucy. I was somewhat lost. Here’s what I gathered. A single mom of two kids Marco and Stella. She was once married to a wealthy man Micheal, he was very abusive and also happens to be Marcos Dad. Lucy did odd jobs playing her 🎻. She wasn’t stable she moved around a lot. It was not until she got a message notification that the baby was 25. Lucy must do everything she can to see the baby even if it meant committing murder?

The story started out slow but gradually developed and was a page-turner. It got spooky at one point but nothing you shouldn’t be able to handle. I was kind of disturbed about the alleged “Child Abuse” that was briefly mentioned. The circumstances around the alleged murder/suicide was cleared up, Libby gained new love and siblings. Henry is a whole character, they’re some points in the story where I felt bad for him but that little boy is the devil 😩😩. Y’all I was cursing him out. Henry’s mother I wanted to knock some sense into her, can she be any more stupid and gullible urgggggh. Henry’s dad was just there anything to make his wife happy.

This book also made me think how as parents we ought to consider how our actions affect children. Children have feelings too.

What I’ve Done -Melinda Leigh (Morgan Dane Series Book #4) #BookReview

Synopsis:

Haley Powell wakes up covered in blood, with no memory of the night before. When she sees a man lying in the backyard, stabbed to death, she has only one terrified thought: What have I done?

Agreeing to take the case as a favor to her PI friend Lincoln Sharp, Morgan must scale a mountain of damning circumstantial and forensic evidence to prove her client innocent. Haley couldn’t appear more guilty: her bloodstained fingerprints are on the murder weapon, and she has no alibi. But Morgan can’t shake the feeling that this shocked young woman has been framed.

Someone out there is hell-bent on sabotaging her defense, targeting Morgan, her partner, and especially Haley. Someone who will stop at nothing—and whose next move will be deadly.

My Thoughts:

Morgan Dane is damn good. She’s very intuitive, methodical, and very hands-on. No matter what she gets down to business and she leaves no stones turned. Innocent until proven guilty. She ensures that everything is reviewed and that her clients have what is needed to get through their cases. This case was a tough one all the evidence pointed to her new client. She had taken this case as a favor to Sharpe. He’d been so good to her she wouldn’t say no. This case was like no other; they were very close to the truth and whoever was guilty was gonna make damn sure that Morgan and team didn’t find out. Their life along with their client was in danger!

My heart gasped a few times I didn’t want anything to happen to Morgan, Lance or Sharpe. Things got serious but Morgans quick response saved the day once more.

Melinda is good. One minute you’d think you would know who the killer was but nope, your wrong, lol, Morgan will find out who though…

Sophie’s character adds warmth and fuzziness to the story as well as the characters. Her relationship with Lance is so pure.

Good things happened things are looking up for #MorLan. Awesome book. Maybe my favorite of the series thus far.

My rating is ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

If you love a good suspense novel check out the series. Start at Book #1. The Romance is not bad it adds to the storyline and I’m not a romance novel kinda girl.

The Last Goodbye – Melinda Leigh (Book #2 Morgan Dane Series) #BookReview

Synopsis:

Source: Good Reads

Young mother Chelsea Clark leaves the house for a girls’ night out…and vanishes. Her family knows she would never voluntarily leave her two small children. Her desperate husband—also the prime suspect—hires Morgan to find his wife and prove his innocence.

As a single mother, Morgan sympathizes with Chelsea’s family and is determined to find her. She teams up with private investigator Lance Kruger. But the deeper they dig, the deadlier their investigation gets. When Morgan is stalked by a violent predator, everything—and everyone—she holds dear is in grave danger.

Now, Morgan must track down a deranged criminal to protect her own family…but she won’t need to leave home to find him. She’s his next target.

My Thoughts:

Melinda Leigh takes us on another roller coaster ride into this suspense series where a young mother Chelsea Clarke goes missing and the husband Tim Clarke desperate to find her , hires Sharps PI Firm. Morgan and Lance have formed the dynamic duo after solving the major case in Book 1 which was all over the news.

Morgan and Lance used all their tactic to solve the case while occasionally stepping on the Sheriff’s toes. Lance the with the skills he learnt while on the force and Morgan a former prosecutor was very intuitive. The plot took me by surprise when they thought the case was over they had found Chelsea but Morgan still knew that something was an amiss the killer was now hunting her. They came up with a plan which was pretty dangerous but managed not only to solve the kidnapping of the young mother but other missing persons from the town. I loved how the writer maintained the suspense and built on the budding romance that was developing between Lance and Morgan who finally shared their feelings for ea other. I look forward to seeing where their relationship is going and for them solving more mysteries in their little hometown.

Book #3 Morgan Dane series – Melinda Leigh

Say You’re Sorry – Melinda Leigh( Book#1 Morgan Dane Series) (#BookReview)

Synopsis:

After the devastating loss of her husband in Iraq, Morgan Dane returns to Scarlet Falls, seeking the comfort of her hometown. Now, surrounded by family, she’s finally found peace and a promising career opportunity—until her babysitter is killed and her neighbor asks her to defend his son, Nick, who stands accused of the murder.

Tessa was the ultimate girl next door, and the community is outraged by her death. But Morgan has known Nick for years and can’t believe he’s guilty, despite the damning evidence stacked against him. She asks her friend Lance Kruger, an ex-cop turned private eye, for help. Taking on the town, the police, and a zealous DA, Morgan and Lance plunge into the investigation, determined to find the real killer. But as they uncover secrets that rock the community, they become targets for the madman hiding in plain sight.

My Thoughts:

This book was nothing short of amazing. I was thoroughly engulfed in ever page. I wanted more; I got more. I was there with the characters I felt their emotions as they solved the mysteries in the town. The characters Morgan and Lance we’re my favorites honorable mention was her daughter, 3 yr old Sophie.

Morgan had lost her husband, father of her three kids. She was now living back home with her grandfather in Scarlett Falls. She restled with the idea that she was still grieving her husband and wanting to go on with her life being a good mom to her kids. She was a good prosecutor and felt after two years it was time to pick up the pieces.

Things took a turn when her next-door neighbor was accused of murdering her babysitter – Tessa. Morgan was not convinced that he could have done something like that seeing that Nick sometimes babysat her daughters and played chess with her grandfather. Nick father strapped for cash didn’t know what he was going to do he knew his son was innocent. Morgan decided to represent Nick, yea a prosecutor now a defense attorney.

She reaches out to her old friend Lance to try and solve the mystery that also caused a divide in the community. Her neighbors felt she was a traitor representing a would be rapist and murder. They did such a good job not just solving that crime but all the other town secrets. They made a dynamic duo, I loved their storyline and the budding romance that eventually developed. I won’t say much but I was swooning away at #MORLAN 😊. I don’t like romance novels but the little I got I appreciated. It’s a good read and I look forward to reading the other books in the series.

I give it 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ unto the next in the series.

Follow You Home- Mark Edwards #BookReview

Laura and Daniel planned a vacation around Europe just before settling down. They meet an interesting couple along the way with whom they shared experiences. Things happened on their vacation that caused them to return home immediately; both promising each other not to repeat what happened .

Their relationship eventually suffered and things started occurring that further pushed them apart. Daniel thinks the only way to deal with all the spooky things that are happening around them is to reveal all. All is fair in this riveting story of Love, Secrets ,Death, Friendship, Betrayal and new beginnings in this psychological thriller.

Things started out slowly in the beginning but got interesting as the story developed you won’t want to put it down. I got angry, scared , felt shock as I didn’t know what was going to happen next. The end left me calling Laura a b*tch I just can’t believe how all that escalated. I never saw it coming.

Overall I am giving this book 5 stars
